Excellent reminders of sound tennis strategic advice
I’ve read this book from cover to cover and making a second pass through it now. Love the simple presentation of the strategic tennis points that club players will benefit from. I used several of these strategies in my daily play and they really do work if you stick to your plan and are patient. Don’t expect miracles - you still have to successfully execute and that comes with lots of play and practice.

good short read
Good read for beginner or amateur looking for simple strategy points. No advanced tactics for players above a decent high school player

Enjoyed the discussion
A clear and simple collection of strategic thoughts for he recreational player. The first step to winning in tennis is to take the strokes you have and make the best use of them. Not much ground breaking here but a good collection that's easy to read. I liked it.

Very Practical Reference for Match Preparation and Strategy Development
I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting a coherent plan when they step onto the court. Too often our plan is to smash serves, rip down-the-line winners, and slice wicked drop shots from behind the baseline. It's what we see in a pro match, so we want to emulate it. Gerry Donohue smashes that mindset and reminds us we're mortals. He lays out a practical general strategic mindset for your shot making and point play, then gives tactical advice for specific styles of opponents. As an added bonus, the two Appendices give concise guidance for your mindset and strategy. Appendix 1 is basically motivational "words of wisdom" and Appendix 2 is Ten Components of an Effective Recreational Tennis Strategy. This book didn't help me win my next match, but I noticed myself using the strategies I'd learned, and I felt much more confident and content walking off the court, even with a loss. I could look back at my performance and compare the strategies in the book and see exactly where I successfully followed Donohue's advice (and won points & games) and where I fell short and reverted back to flail-and-hope tennis.I would also add that the concepts laid out should help your practice sessions as well. For example, it's one thing to think, "okay, I'm hitting cross-court on rallies unless an easy opportunity comes for down the line." It's another to actually do it, so now you have a goal for practice: deep cross-court shots until you can do them repeatedly as long as you to need in a point.Get the book and read it a lot; it WILL help!

Comprei e fui pra uma final
Fui pra primeira final do meu clube de tênis. Perdi pra um empurrador de bola na final, por isso 4 estrelas.

Immediately improve your game
Basic strategies but ones that work.My game improved immediately by following the principles that removed some of the thought and indecision around shot selection. Hit cross court, hit beyond service line, don’t break first and try to hit a winner, learn your shot tolerance, etc. He’s right!I recommend this book.

Very interesting
I can't really judge how effective the tips are, firstly because I'm currently unable to play (recovering from surgery) and secondly because I'm a beginner and thus not really the book's main "target audience". Yet, I really liked it. It's a quick, enjoyable read. Some of the tips may sound a bit obvious, yet it is the kind of stuff you need to hear/read, as they refer to bad habits anyone can easily develop. Furthermore, his insights also help you look at the game a bit differently and perhaps understand it a bit better even when you're watching the pros on TV. The book is in line with what I expected after reading the description and the reviews, and it did not disappoint me. Can't wait until I'm able to play again to try and put it all to practice to see how effective it will be.

Piece of crap
this book is worthless. I expected a manual with a sequence of practical playing patterns but it's just a list of common sense advice. Do not waste your money on this book.

A bon entendeur !
